Buhari has recklessly mismanaged Nigerian Economy
By Nat Apir
Buhari has recklessly ,& hopelessly mismanaged and thrown the Nigerian Economy into a =N= 24 trillion debt up from =N= 11 trillion since Independence & now he is about Taxing us to pay back .
Vat is now charged at 7.5% up from 5 %
He is also about to introduce Taxes on Telephone lines & DSTV subscription meanwhile the charges for these services are already inclusive of Taxes
He jacked up the price/liter of petrol from =N=85 to =N= 140/liter
And yet, he is still talking of re - introducing Toll Taxes on our highways .
Under this rudderless government our foreign exchange jumped from =N= 180 to 365 to the $
In all this, the question to ask is; what value has the Buhari administration brought to the table for the benefit of Nigerians in the past 4 years ?
Nothing!
Buhari inherited a $29 billion Foreign reserve + $2.5 billion in our sovereign wealth account + $4 billion from NNLG bringing the total to $35.5 billion from the GEJ administration in 2015 .
But 4 years after our foreign reserve is still a mere $42 billion plus a =N=13 trillion debt, and please take note that this debt was incurred in 4 years alone ! ! !
Meanwhile oil prices have stabilized at a weighted average of about $53/barrel in the past 3 years .
And we have also maintained a crude oil sales volume of 2.2 million barrels/day in the past 3 and a half years.
So, what is all the noise about anyway...that our foreign reserve is $42 billion when Buhari has borrowed =N= 13 trillion with nothing to show for it!
And yet still according to Buhari we have made more recoveries from corrupt individuals & politicians than at any time in our history in the past 4 years, but Where is the money ?
We all can recall that at some point monies were being picked in homes in Ikoyi , Kaduna and at airports and shops including soakaways and plastic tanks by the EFCC in this country !
Which is very good and to some of us it was an indication that we are in a new era , an era of transparency , accountability and fiscal responsibility .
But alas little did we know that it was all a facade , a charade and empty air without substance .
Because unfortunately we have so far not been told how much that has been recovered in the past 4 years by the EFCC & ICPC and how the monies and assets have been deployed for the benefit of Nigerians .
It is like we take with the right hand and handover to the left hand.
It is simply not enough to be seen to be fighting corruption without accountability !
We must reject this planned taxation of every and all things under the sun in Buhari's Nigeria !
Where are the safety nets for the poor ?
Buhari did agree to pay =N=30,000 as our new National minimum wage , this was a few months to elections , but after "winning" the 2019 presidential elections he has since recanted and reneged on his promise and agreement with Labour.
This government is peopled by very dishonest & dishonorable men & women.
Buhari not many Nigerians can afford to pay your proposed new taxes - remember , that we have 100m people living in abject poverty already
